A car transmission being repaired.

The transmission efficiently transforms your engine’s power into energy that enables your wheels to move at the desired speed. Over time the combination of extreme heat and friction in the transmission can lead to damage. If your transmission shows signs of wear, you’ll need a transmission repair at your Chrysler dealer. These are a few warning signs that your transmission could be in trouble.

Check Engine Light

The check engine light on the dash illuminates whenever a problem is detected in your car. This light connects to numerous sensors that monitor your car’s vital systems. These sensors continually feed information back to your car’s computer. If the sensors note a problem in your transmission, a message will be sent to your car’s computer immediately, and the light will illuminate.

The engine and transmission are directly connected, so a problem with one will also affect the other. Your engine will work harder to try and overcome a transmission issue, which can lead to additional wear and tear on the engine. Our technicians will connect your computer to our diagnostic system to identify the specific problem so we can repair it.

Transmission Leak

As we’ve seen, the inside of the transmission is a hot environment, and uncontrolled heat is dangerous for most car components. Fluid is pumped through the transmission to absorb the heat and remove it to control the temperature. This fluid protects the transmission components by enveloping them in a friction-resistant film that reduces damage.

We thoroughly examine your transmission during your regular transmission service. Age and wear can cause seals and gaskets to leak. One of the most important seals is the transmission pan gasket on the underside of your transmission. This seal can crack or shrink due to age, and transmission fluid will leak out. As you lose fluid, your transmission will become less responsive and start to overheat. We’ll replace the gasket to fix this problem.

Strange Noises From the Transmission

A transmission should operate silently. Buzzing, humming, or whining sounds from the transmission mean a problem is developing. The first time you hear these odd noises, they usually manifest as a slight buzzing sound that grows louder over time. The buzzing will transform into a humming or whing noise if the problem isn’t corrected.

One of the most common causes of these noises is a lack of transmission fluid. When the lubricating effects of the fluid are removed, transmission parts will start to make odd noises. We will need to examine the transmission to find and fix the problem.

If your transmission makes strange noises or doesn’t feel right, call us ASAP at Carlock CDJR of Tupelo.
